Kenny & Geoff,

 What do you guys think about the Netbooks.  I was thinking about purchasing one.  I have read the reviews on many different manufactures and models but am still uncertain.  I would like you two's input if I could please on this possible purchase.

They're inexpensive, small, run Windows, and the hardware has enough power to run Windows XP well. I don't think I would have much use for one but for the type of work you do I think a netbook would be a perfect fit.

I've heard good things about the Acer and it is one of the least expensive ones out there. The HP's look good to but they cost a bit more and I'm sure you're just paying the extra for the name. I would stay away from the ones that run Linux. Not that Linux is bad or anything it's just that one running Windows would let you run the applications you already have and know how to use.

Other then that, I don't know much about them.

Would I be able to upload programs like the CutePDF, PDF, and some of the other programs Kenny has me hooked up with?  I saw that question asked on a review section I was looking at on the computers but could not find an answer to the question.

It's Windows XP so it should run anything you can run on a Windows XP desktop or laptop computer. With the exception of games that require a lot of graphics because the graphics are a bit weak in these things. But you can run MS Office, Adobe Reader, and a lot of other low resource apps. I wouldn't want to try to run something like Photoshop or Ilistrator but it should run your applications just fine.

How about my current lap top.  Would you recommend hanging onto to it or could I use the netbook as a main computer instead of the bigger laptop?

I would hang on to you laptop, at least until you were comfortable with the netbook.

Netbooks would be good if you traveled a lot and weight was an issue. Also, they are good for just surfing the net, email and web applications. That's why they are "Net" books. Some of them have enough power to run Office and the screen is small. I'm a Dell fan just for the fact that you just plug them in and play. Recommend for and office environment. If you get real busy, I could see you using it quit a bit. Nice and lite. If you need internet access in the field look in to a broadband card. They work pretty good. If you find one on line that you like, send us the link so we can look a the specs.

That Dell you linked to looked pretty nice.

Damn, you got me thinking about getting one of these.

Took a look at the specs. Pretty nice and it has enough power. It also has a slot for a broadband card. Think about service also. I know Dell is all phone and mail. I think HP is the same way. Check Costco also. Not sure how close Costco would be to where your moving, but they have a great return policy.

Costco is where I saw the HP at.  There is one in Denver about 45 min. from where I'll be.  Between the two, HP and Dell, which is the better system?  The HP keyboard seem to be pretty user friendly, is the Dells keyboard have big or small keys?

I would say they are pretty close to the same size. The netbooks are pretty small to begin with. Not much room for a big keyboard. My brother has an HP laptop that runs pretty good. The only think I would watch out for is Vista. You might be able to call HP and see if you can get a down grade from HP. I know Dell use to offer it and still give you Vista.
